Brothers and Sisters of UGSOA International,

I am writing to inform you of some significant changes within our organization. Our Senior Vice President, Jeff Miller, is no longer with us. As a result of his departure, and in accordance with the International constitution, I have been moved into the role of Senior Vice President. I have also been assigned as the director for all of our CSO groups.

My background began as a security guard at a nuclear power plant in Maine. I then moved on to become a Maine State Trooper. I retired as a trooper in 2003. After a few years as a foreman for a construction company, I became a security guard at a federal building in Maine. I joined UGSOA Local 273B in April of 2015. I then served as the local treasurer, moved to vice president, and then on the president. I went to work at UGSOA International in February of 2020 and have been here ever since. I have negotiated many CBAs during this time and have processed multiple grievances to arbitration. I recently oversaw a pending lockout of one of our locals, but with assistance of a U.S. Congresswoman, was able to avoid the lockout successfully, achieving our desired economic package.

I look forward to working with all of you as I undertake this new challenge, and ask for your patience as I learn all of the nuances associated with this new position.

Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns.

    Fraternally,

    Jeff Holman

    Sr. VP UGSOA International

The Strongest Union for Security Professionals

  • Good Morning Union Members,

The Union is continuously working to improve how we communicate with you and to ensure you remain fully informed of all Union actions and activities. You have entrusted us to be your voice in presenting your concerns and complaints to the Company, and we take that responsibility seriously.

Moving forward, all official Union communications will be issued in writing. Shop Stewards will read these statements verbatim during briefings, and printed copies will be distributed to each member for personal review. This process is intended to ensure consistency, accuracy, and transparency in all messaging.

We recognize that no system is perfect and that there have been challenges along the way. It is our responsibility to identify those shortcomings and correct them promptly. As improvements are implemented, there may be some initial difficulties, but these efforts will lead to more effective and reliable communication.

Please keep the following in mind:

        •    Any information critical to your job or well-being as a Union member will be communicated through an official written statement.

        •    Verbal communication will only occur when accompanied by an official document.

        •    If a verbal message does not match the written document, it should not be considered official Union communication.

The Union will continue to keep all Shop Stewards informed across every watch regarding the activities of your elected officials.

If you have any concerns or questions, the Union office is available Monday through Thursday, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The Union office phone number is 760-503-1235. You may also visit the Union website at www.local880.com. Please take advantage of these resources to stay informed.

I want to leave you with this: you have entrusted me to advocate on your behalf to ensure a safe working environment and to uphold the Collective Bargaining Agreement in the language in which it was negotiated. I do not take these responsibilities lightly. I am honored to serve as your President, and I will ensure that your directives and mandates are adhered to in every negotiation between the Union and the Company.

No changes to your working conditions will occur without a vote of the membership. I will not sign, agree to, or commit to anything with the Company without majority approval. That is the standard, and it will be enforced.

    Respectfully,

    S. Shannon

    President, Local 880
